On the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day 21st September, (ARDSI), Guwahati Chapter has successfully conducted a heartfelt music therapy session that brought joy and connection to everyone involved. Participants experienced the powerful impact of music in evoking memories and emotions, fostering a sense of community and understanding. There were two sessions. The first one for the senior citizens with almost 90 attendees and the second session was for the younger generation with 60 participants from different institutions. Both the sessions evoked very positive and active responses from the participants. The chief guest of the event was Mrs. Mrinalini Devi, former Vice President of Assam Sahitya Sabha, and the music therapy was directed by a team from Mumbai,Mrs Anubhuti Goswami and Mr Emon Seuj Goswami.
As an activity of the Alzheimer's month, a college outreach program on Dementia awareness in Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia college has been successfully concluded by the Youth Brigade of ARDSI, Guwahati chapter; engaging about 40 students and the assistant professor of the college. Participants learned about the signs and symptoms of dementia, the role of students on dementia care as well as effective strategies for supporting affected individuals and their families. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing a newfound understanding and empathy towards those living with dementia. This initiative not only raised awareness but also fostered a commitment among students to advocate for better support systems in our community.
On 19th May, 2024 ARDSI organised a meeting for formation of Youth brigade under ARDSI Guwahati Chapter at Dementia Day Care Center. President Emeritus Dr.Ajaya Mahanta, President Shri Subha Brtra Sarmah, and the members of ARDSI Guwahati, Shri Rajkamal Bhuyan, Dr M Hussain (AIIMS,Guwahati) and Mrs. Debastuti Baruah attended the meeting along with invited youths . The meeting took a strong initiative to focus on dementia and its awareness in different parts of Assam with the help of youth Brigade. In the first phase, a Youth Brigade called 'Forget Me Not' was formed with the cooperation of the youths from different districts of Assam. The meeting also formed a youth Bragade committee of ARDSI. Our member Dr. M Hussain will be adviser of that committee.
