Our Activities

In 2015, we started running a Day Care Centre for Dementia affected people at the hospital of the Kuntal Goswami Memorial Trust opposite the Geetanagar Police Outpost where nuclear families having such patients at home can leave their senior relatives at our Centre while they go about their work and pick them up in the evening. In addition to regularly care for such patients, we conduct Physiotherapy and Yoga for the benefit of these patients. In 2016, DEMENTIA DAY CARE CENTRE was shifted to Arunudoi path at Hatigaon, Guwahati, where we now take care of Dementia affected patients or even senior.

Internship program is also offered to the students of psychology, social work and different background from different institute in North East India. Their job is to go to the day care center and interact with the patients, plan activities for them, and obtain a comprehensive case history and MMSE for each patient.

Since its inception, ARDSI has been organizing free memory screening camps and awareness meetings across various parts of Assam.

For the training, ARDSI Guwahati received a fund from Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) , so the training was conducted free of cost for all participants. In the initial stages of planning, funding was one of the prominent issues and so this helps from NRL was a huge relief and the training could include outstation students and provide them with all the needed facilities. We have completed 4 (Four) such training programs for Dementia Care Skills and Dementia Caregivers in the year of 2019 to 2021. More than 100 students from different places of North East region participated in the training programs.

On the Occasion of World Alzheimer’s month 3rd September, 2017 ARDSI Guwahati organized A drama ― Antaryuddha was staged by renowned actors of Assam as well as members from ARDSI. The drama showcased some of the typical symptoms of Dementia and its devastating effect on the sufferer and his family members. The Drama was staged multiple times, twice at Madhavdeva International Auditorium at Shankardeva Kalakshetra and once at Rabindra Bhavan. Each show managed to get a packed auditorium.

The month of September has been internationally declared as the Alzheimer’s Month and the 21st September as the World Alzheimer’s Day. The whole month of September in a befitting manner and at the same time spread awareness among the masses regarding this incurable and progressive ailment particularly amongst the senior citizens.

ARDSI Guwahati hosted the XVIIIth National Conference of ARDSI, ARDSICON 2013, at Guwahati on the 29th& 30thNovember, 2013. Several international/national experts in the field had attended including the World President of Alzheimer’s disease International, Dr Jacob Roy
